Highway to the Danger Zone.

With the Video on Demand release of Top Gun: Maverick fast approaching, my team was tasked with creating and delivering all the necessary assets to make the launch go as smoothly as possible on Paramount+. That meant delivering movie posters and movie photography in a multitude of different specs. It also included assets for our partners, like Apple, Roku, and Amazon.

Not all stories have a happy ending.

Devotion is a 2022 biographical war film based on the true story of Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner, two U.S. Navy pilots who fought together in the Korean War. The film stars Glen Powell as Hudner, alongside Christina Jackson, Daren Kagasoff, Joe Jonas, Spencer Neville, Nick Hargrove, and Thomas Sadoski.

The film follows Brown and Hudner as they break down racial barriers and become two of the most decorated pilots in the Navy. Their friendship is tested when Brown's plane is shot down behind enemy lines, and Hudner risks his own life to save him.

Devotion is a powerful and moving film about friendship, courage, and sacrifice. It is a must-see for anyone interested in military history, aviation, or the Korean War.

Updating logos with both direction and magnitude. Oh, yeah!

The Goal:

The goal of the project was to update all platform logos to meet new specifications, including those for movies, TV shows, and documentaries. The production team had been delivering multiple pixel-based logos for each screen size that the app was used on. However, the platform needed to move towards a more efficient and streamlined concept. Therefore, all logos would now have to be delivered as vector files, which can scale dynamically to fit the needs of any device.

The Challenge:

When I was tasked with managing this initiative from a production standpoint, I was overwhelmed by the number of challenges the project presented.

The sheer number of logos alone would make anyone's head spin.

Some of the most glaring challenges were:

  • There was no centralized logo archive.
  • An asset audit had never been conducted.
  • It was unclear how many logos were vector and how many were pixel based.

The Approach:
  • We first needed to audit our logos to determine how many we had, regardless of file format. This would allow us to estimate the resources and effort required for the project.
  • I also wanted to automate as much of the process as possible, as most previous projects of this nature had been done manually, taking up a significant amount of the production team's time.

The outcome:

We were able to free up the production team to focus on other tasks by automating the process with a combination of scripts and actions, while still ensuring that the project was completed on time.
